DRAQ5™ - 0.5 mM Summary
Description |
Key Features of DRAQ5 (TM) :
Bright, far-red DNA dye that works on live or fixed cell and tissue preparations for multiple applications such as flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, and high content screening Proven no-lyse, no-wash method for measuring DNA content in cells Tested on hundreds of cell and tissue types Exceptionally photostable so no photobleaching effect Convenient, ready-to-use formulation Enables phenotyping of blood/BM and direct cellular DNA content analysis in flow cytometry without any RBC lysis or fixation, permeabilization or RNase treatment Spectrally compatible with most visible-range fluorophores including GFP/FITC and R-PE
Products are shipped at ambient temperature, but on receipt packs should be stored at 2-8C. DO NOT FREEZE. DRAQ5 (TM) can come out of solution when frozen and it is difficult (but not impossible) to get it back into solution. |

Background
Deep Red Anthraquinone 5 (DRAQ5 (TM)) is a cell-permeable dye belonging to the anthraquinone family that intercalates with high affinity to double stranded DNA (dsDNA). This far-red emitting fluorescent DNA dye is used for cell cycle analysis and nuclear staining. No measurable binding to mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been detected and DRAQ5 (TM) shows negligible binding to RNA.
The excitation wavelength maxima of DRAQ5 (TM) are 600 nm / 646 nm but it can also be suboptimally excited by the 488nm (blue laser) for flow cytometry. Its emission wavelength maximum is 697 nm when intercalated with dsDNA. The fluorescence signal is proportional and stoichiometric to the quantity of nuclear DNA present in the cell.
