Alternate Names for Recombinant Human EGF Protein
Background
EGF R (ErbB1) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that is widely expressed on epithelial cells and is required for epithelial cell development and proliferation. EGF R binds the EGF family ligands: EGF, Amphiregulin, TGF-alpha, Betacellulin, Epiregulin, HB-EGF, and Epigen. Ligand binding induces EGF R homodimerization as well as heterodimerization with ErbB2, ErbB3, or ErbB4. EGF R signaling regulates multiple biological functions including cell proliferation, differentiation, motility, and apoptosis. Alterations in the structure, expression, and signaling of EGF R are involved in the development and metastasis of a wide variety of cancers.
