Flow (Intracellular): Galectin-3 Antibody (M3/38) [NBP1-43313] - Intracellular staining of the monocyte population in normal human peripheral blood cells (right) or C57BL/6 mouse bone marrow cells (left) with Anti-Mouse CD11b APC and 0.125 ug of Anti-Human/Mouse Galectin-3 Biotin followed by Streptavidin PE. Total viable cells were used for analysis.. Using the Biotin format of this antibody.

Flow (Intracellular): Galectin-3 Antibody (M3/38) [NBP1-43313] - An intracellular stain was performed on RAW 246.7 cells with Galectin-3 Antibody (M3/38) NBP1-43313AF700 (blue) and a matched isotype control (orange). Cells were fixed with 4% PFA and then permeablized with 0.1% saponin. Cells were incubated in an antibody dilution of 10 ug/mL for 30 minutes at room temperature. Both antibodies were conjugated to Alexa Fluor 700.

Background

The M3/38 antibody reacts with mouse Galectin-3 (Mac-2). Galectins are a family of animal lectins which appear to exhibit a variety of biological functions. Galectin 3 (aka LGALS3, galactose-specific soluble lectin 3, Mac-2, L-29) is one of the more extensively studied members of this family and is a 30 kDa beta-galactoside-binding protein. Due to a C-terminal carbohydrate binding site, Galectin 3 is capable of binding IgE and mammalian cell surfaces only when homodimerized or homo-oligomerized. Galectin 3 is normally distributed in epithelia of many organs and various inflammatory cells, including macrophages, as well as dendritic cells and Kupffer cells. The expression of this lectin is up-regulated during inflammation, cell proliferation, cell differentiation and through trans-activation by viral proteins. This monoclonal antibody M3/38 crossreacts to human Galectin-3 (LGALS3).
